If like me, you are a massive fan of this show then you’ll be equally excited for the new series starting this Friday! If you haven’t watched the first series, you can catch it on BBC iplayer . The show is a spin off from Death in Paradise and follows the eccentric Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) as he takes up a new position as DI in the hometown of his fiancée Martha (played by Sally Bretton) called Shipton Abbott in Devon. There is a really easy, warm relationship between the two characters that is the foundation of the show.

As the series progresses, the couple work through the ups and downs of their relationship, while a crime story happens in each episode.

The crime stories are completely different each episode and don’t all revolve around murder either, there’s everything from the myth of a local witch to the burning of a barn. The stories are not overly complicated neither too simple. I find myself switching off from reality and enjoy being carried along with the stories.

Humphrey relies (much like Death in Paradise) on his team to help him crack a series of baffling crimes. PC Kelby (played by Dylan Llewellyn), adds comedy to the show, as well as the down to earth Margo (played by Felicity Montagu.) Humphrey doesn’t initially get along with dedicated DS Esther Williams (played by Zahra Ahmadi) but he grows on her through the series.

The setting of the show is so gorgeous, beautiful harbours, white washed houses and little market town centres. Shipton Abbott may not actually exist but the filming took place in and around Cornwall and Devon. I have to book a holiday there. Looking forward to seeing what this new series brings. I hope there will be some happiness for Martha and Humphrey and plenty more interesting crimes!
